Stories of Success from our 2026 Noxious Weed Management Cost Share Program!

Russian olive and tamarisk had taken over about an acre of Landowners #1’s property, crowding out native plants along the water. Working from a management plan developed with Mesa Conservation District staff, they brought in a local conservation corps crew to cut the trees and treat the stumps so they wouldn’t resprout. A follow-up site visit confirmed the Russian olive and tamarisk in the project area had been removed with the help of a cost share.

Landowner 2 enrolled to take on the Russian olive and tamarisk spreading across their land. After a site visit and mapping with Mesa Conservation District staff, a contractor was hired to clear the project area. The post-treatment visit found the tamarisk completely gone. Russian olive is a stubborn species that often takes more than one season, and plan lays out the next steps for keeping it in check.
