Grand Valley Water Committee

Grand Valley Water Committee (the Committee) is a permanent sub-committee of Mesa Conservation District (MCD) composed of a group of vested stakeholders that work together to coordinate efforts among individuals and entities across the Grand Valley. MCD and the members of the Committee recognize the necessity of cooperation and collaboration among diverse stakeholders and existing watershed groups in order to ensure that our community has a thriving, sustainable, resilient watershed in the face of increasing pressures due to population expansion and extreme changes in climate.

There are many groups and long range plans for watershed management for our valley, but it is easy to inadvertently engage in siloed efforts, often competing for the same limited resources and time. Our goal is that the Committee become a hub for these efforts, eliminating the frustration of duplication of effort and inability to get projects to completion. This will result in more efficient use of stakeholder resources as well as state and federal funds.

Using strategic planning we prioritize projects and coordinate with our partners to determine who is most well placed to act as fiscal agent for the project, help track down funding sources, design, and construction as needed.

The Committee meets the definition of a ‘Watershed Group’ and operates under the umbrella of Mesa Conservation District. Conservation Districts are able to work directly with private landowners and other partners to see projects through. The District is already set up with by-laws and is able to accept and manage both state and federal funds.

Mission:

The Water Committee provides a mechanism to facilitate coordination between diverse, specialized initiatives so that individuals and entities can work together to achieve goals that tie into the many long range and watershed plans already drafted.

Vision Statement:

We help you get your local water projects done.
