Agriculture Literacy and Education

Through agriculture literacy and education, Mesa Conservation District aims to educate local students on the importance of agriculture within their communities and the potential career options for the future. Through hands-on activities, students learn about drought-tolerant crops and water conservation, soil health principles, water use management, hydrology, and plant sciences.

CSU - Western Colorado Research Center Field Trip Community Partner

In the fall, Mesa Conservation District teamed up with CSU Western Colorado Research Center in Orchard Mesa to assist with providing lessons to D51 students who were visiting the farm. Students were able to experience hands-on learning about water conservation in our area. Students reflected on their own water usage as well as how it can impact other water users where they live. Additionally, students learned what drought is, how it is impacting local hydrology, and in what ways agriculture is adapting to drought conditions. Mesa Conservation District would like to extend a special thank you to the Colorado River Basin Roundtable’s Public Education, Outreach, and Participation grant for funding this opportunity!

If you are interested in having Mesa Conservation District as a guest speaker in your classroom, camp, or educational program, email mesaconservationdistrict@gmail.com to schedule.
