🌸 May is here, bringing with it blooms of promise and a season of renewal!

As spring rains nourish crops and snowmelt journeys down from the high country, our canals are alive with flowing water once again. Each drop of water breathes life into the soil, energizing both the land and the dedicated people who care for it.

April was a busy and exciting month for Mesa Conservation District. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us for the Local Landowner and Local Work Group meeting! Your participation and ideas are the driving force behind our shared success in conservation and community building.

At Mesa Conservation District, we’re leaning into this season of growth by supporting local producers with initiatives in soil health, habitat restoration, and collaborative conservation planning. May is a time to cultivate, create, and work towards the future.

Let’s embrace the return of water to our fields and the vitality it brings to our land and community—together, we’ll grow a season full of possibility. 🌱

THANK YOU!

Thank you to all who were able to make it to our Annual Landowner meeting and Local Work Group! We had over 40 local community members come to learn about what MCD accomplished in 2024 and where we are headed in 2025. We celebrated the MCD-nominated Colorado State Conservationists of the Year, and heard updates from Colorado Ag Water Alliance’s Greg Peterson about their Drought Resiliency program!

A big congratulations to Philip Frank and Lowell King of Lifetime Ag. for winning the Colorado Conservationist of the Year in the Farmer category and to Harry Jackson of Vineland Enterprises for winning the Colorado Conservationist of the Year in the Small Acreage category!

Western Colorado Children’s Water Festival

Last week, Mesa Conservation District presented our Water Use Warriors at the Western Colorado Children’s Water Festival. Students learned about the variety of water uses, including how they are impacted by water use every day! Students had to critically think how to transport water efficiently with a variety of tools and where they believe water should be prioritized. Thank you to all of the event organizers, sponsors, and volunteers who made this event possible!
