News From Our Grand Valley Water Committee Coordinator, Courtney Convy An Introduction to Mesa Conservation District Mesa County is comprised of 2,138,288 acres. Within this territory lies many competing interests for natural resources. These interests range from preserving native and wildlife habitat, recreational enjoyment, agriculture production, and urban growth. Mesa Conservation District (MCD) is a political subdivision of the state working closely with the Natural Resource Conservation Service, the Colorado State Conservation Board and the Colorado Association of Conservation Districts. MCD works on the behalf of landowners to make federal and state resources available for the conservation projects of individual landowners. MCD is comprised of board members, producers, technicians, and environmental science experts that make up a team of professionals dedicated to supporting local natural resource conservation projects. Outlined in Mesa Conservation District’s 3-Year Plan are four priority initiatives that MCD will be addressing starting this year through 2027. These priority initiatives include improvements to agriculture water infrastructure, enhanced water-wise efficiency, soil health and private land restoration, and local food systems and agricultural resiliency. To accomplish these and other initiatives MCD will provide leadership, expertise, funding, and education opportunities to support the vitality of the natural environment and promote sustainable agricultural practices which conserve natural resources.
